The Balkerne Water Tower is a structure of exceptional architectural and historic interest, and is of great importance both nationally and locally 
£8 MILLION GRANT SECURES FUTURE OF JUMBO!North Essex Heritage (NEH), which has a 150 year lease on Jumbo, has won a major grant to fund the implementation of its plans to make Jumbo a national heritage attraction. This makes the future of Jumbo secure. The work will start shortly and be completed in mid 2027, when Jumbo will be open to the public for the first time in its 143 year history. The Balkerne Tower Trust fully supports this endeavour and is working closely with NEH.
