INTERPRETATION PANEL UNVEILED![]() An interpretation panel about Jumbo has been installed on the Council owned land opposite the Mercury Theatre, bordering the pavement and close to Jumbo itself. About 50 people saw The panel bring ceremonially unveiled by Sir Bob Russell on April 6, 2013. For the first time ever, the thousands of people who pass along Balkerne Passage daily can read about this magnificent building. Together with the removal of the ugly hoarding around Jumbo, this has transformed the immediate area, making it a worthy neighbour of the Mercury Theatre, the Arts Centre and the 2000 year old Balkerne Gate. The panel intentionally has the same 'look and feel' as the panels about the Roman Wall being installed shortly. This public service was initiated by BTT and financially supported by one of our trustees, The Colchester and NE Essex BPT, a donation from Cllr Bill Frame's allowance for Ward projects, and the Civic Society.
