THE UGLY HOARDING REMOVED AT LAST!Having at last been requested by Colchester Borough Council to remove the hoarding around Jumbo (after delays and false starts), the owner complied with the request in May 2013. Permission for the hoarding actually expired in August 2007. It should have been removed by that date. The hoarding was originally allowed as a 'construction hoarding' for the previous owner's penthouse scheme for Jumbo, which was allowed on appeal in 2001 but never carried out. The hoarding served no useful purpose. It had become increasingly dilapidated and a target for vandals. This is especially serious because Jumbo lies within a Conservation Area. Vandals have also used the hoarding to hide from public view while they have caused damage to this historic building. For the first time in many years, people can now appreciate the complete view of this major Colchester landmark. |
